    I recently came across this video via an Animal Planet tweet that brought me to the Discovery News blog where someone had left the youtube link in the comments. Yay science nerds with access to fancy technology.

    Seems the barreleye is an appropriate creature to celebrate in a month where those of us who believe in science reveled in Darwin’s 200th birthday.

    There are lots of amazing coffee table and photo/art books out there. But I don’t think I’ve ever come across one that I’ve wanted so bad! At the crux of science and art you find books like this:

    It’s officially Spring semester 2009. I’ve been in graduate school for two years.

    In the Fall I took my final course, Geostatistics for Fishery Applications, which resulted in this:

    Fantastic, right? It’s a kriged map of yellowtail flounder abundance based on my tagging data. It’s a bit out of context because it’s only from a portion of the data, but there is potential here.

  • A Cause for Optimism?

    President-Elect Obama’s appointments seem quite fortuitous for marine biologists, and this post on CHANGE.GOV makes it sound like someone might want to give me a job when I graduate. Then why did the person I interviewed with yesterday suggest there would be an immediate hiring freeze after the inauguration? I suppose it could take time to get the budget squared away, but I am hopeful that the new political climate will...
