Festival Season & PRN
The Telluride Bluegrass Festival was last weekend. It’s one of those “I’ll get there one day” events I fawn over from afar every year. When I imagine jobs I might try I think I could handle being a teacher solely because it would allow me to pack up and go to TBF —> NWSS every year.
So I figured it was time to talk music again because there’s lots of new things I’m enjoying. So, without further adieu your monthly-ish dose of PRN. (This one’s for the ladies.)
The Lovell Sisters, Time to Grow. From the state of Georgia, so they automatically hold a place in my heart. Dixie Chicks meet Rhonda Vincent.
Sarah Jarosz, Song Up in Her Head. What a complete talent. 18 years old and has been on stage with bluegrass greats for years. The album proves she’s a songwriter in her own right.
Regina Spektor, Far. I’ve heard a few songs from older albums on the radio and never really took notice, but I really enjoyed listening to this album all the way through. Creative lyrics and provocative melodies.
Tift Merritt, Buckingham Solo. I absolutely loved seeing her at the Narrows so it’s wonderful having a release of live tunes with that same, raw, personal feel. The piano is beautiful.
Are you listening to anything good?
