Top 10 Favorites from 2007

It’s been awhile, so here are some of my favorite things from the year past in Top Ten form (though not necessarily in that order).

10. Favorite Wedding. Kim and Ginty’s; Sonoma, California. I was at three this year, but no one can really compete with Gintapalooza in wine country.

9. Favorite New Toy. My MacBook Pro. Does everything I ask of it, and allows me to easily video chat with my best friend in Spain. Not to mention it looks fabulous.

8. Favorite Album. The Avett Brothers Emotionalism. The band could also be filed under “Favorite Artist Discovered This Year”, and possibly even “Favorite Show Attended of the Year.” Amazing how these guys can go from a rocking throw-down of a song that makes you slap the steering wheel uncontrollably to a quiet heartfelt ballad all in a breath. Can’t wait to see/hear more of them.

7. Favorite Meal. One sticks out in my memory: a late-winter venison roast made in the slow cooker. It warmed me to the core and was the best game meat I’ve ever tasted. (It was, of course, wrapped in bacon.)

6. Favorite Movie. I didn’t go to a lot of movies this year, with an especially long drought between April and December. So I am including DVDs. Strangely enough, I think my favorite was Breach with Ryan Phillipe and Chris Cooper. Which really shows you how few movies I saw.

5. Favorite Bad Habit Picked Up. Grey’s Anatomy, closely followed by Project Runway.

4. Favorite New State Visited. Alaska. Duh.

3. Favorite Photo Taken. The light still stuns me. gulls.JPG

2. Favorite Road Trip. Quebec, February. Yes, in spite of the MCL tear. I’ve never seen so much snow in my life. (And seeing it from the hot tub was fabulous.)

1. Favorite Book. Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love. It has been awhile since there has been a book I so badly wanted everyone who knows me to read. A beautiful travelogue and story of healing and metaphysical exploration.
